Adding a child
Adding a child takes one page, with its defaults chosen already. You can change all of it later in the child's Settings, on your family page.
The child
On your family page, fill in the form (for another child, press Add child there):
- What the teacher calls them: a first name or nickname, up to 40 characters.
- Grade: from Grade 1. A later grade can be chosen as soon as its first lessons are ready. Which lessons each grade means in each subject is on What children learn.
- Curriculum: the United States' (Common Core and NGSS), Canada's British Columbia curriculum or Cambridge International, wherever you live; the one for your time zone is chosen to start with. Their own page follows it. On their lessons on the family pages, any curriculum's lessons are one tap away, and you can open more curricula for your child to browse (see Your child's learning plan).
- What they love: dinosaurs, soccer, space or just pizza. The teacher's examples come from it.
- Teacher: one of the ten AI teachers. Press Hear to listen to each one first.
That's all a child's profile holds: no last name, birthday or photo. A family can have up to 6 children, each with their own teacher, lessons and reports.
- Voice classes: tick that you've read how voice classes work and allow your child to take them. A child can't have a class without it: see Consents and voice classes.
Under Learning plan: recommended for this grade, the page says where each subject starts and how your child's week goes. Press Add my child to keep that plan; or Add, then change the plan to choose it now, in the two steps below. Either way, your family page opens again and says what's next: see Your child's first class.
You choose your parent PIN the first time you hand over to a child.
Changing the plan: where each subject starts
Each subject starts at the first unit of your child's grade, or where its lessons are nearest, and goes on from there unit by unit, into the next grade: its learning line. Change where any subject starts, or leave one out for now, and give a subject More or Less of each week's lessons than Usual. Then press Next; or press Use all the defaults.
Changing the plan: how the week goes
Which days of the week your child has class, and how long their classes may run each day: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with their grade's daily limit, until you choose. Tick the days you want, any of the seven. As you choose, the page says which days those are, how many lessons a class day holds, and about how long the lessons left this term take. Press Next, or Use all the defaults. See Your child's learning plan.
Then your child's first week is planned, and your family page opens again. A step you leave before the end keeps its defaults.
A change in Settings counts from the next class, and their lessons and reports so far are kept.
