Devices and sound
A class needs a computer or tablet with a microphone, and a quiet place. Class turns on the microphone; the camera stays off.
The bell
Before each class, your child taps Tap to hear the bell, a short chime, and says whether they heard it. If they didn't, the screen suggests:
- Turn the volume up.
- On an iPad or iPhone, make sure the side or mute switch isn't on silent.
- Using headphones? Check they're plugged in.
- Bluetooth headphones can make your teacher sound like a phone call. The device's speakers or wired headphones sound best.
In class
- If the screen shows Tap to hear your teacher, tap it: some browsers play sound only after a tap.
- On a computer whose microphone is in Bluetooth headphones, the class uses the computer's own microphone instead, when it has one, so the headphones keep the teacher sounding clear.
- On a computer with more than one microphone, the Microphone menu in class picks another one.
- Reconnecting… means the class is getting its connection back by itself. If it drops, see A dropped connection.
